Israel Update
On Wednesday Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak is planning on meeting with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to discuss jump starting the peace negotiations with the Palestinians. Both the US and Israel are hoping Mubarak can pressure Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas into returning to negotiations.  Abbas recently left negotiations because Israel has not agreed to freezing the construction of settlements in the West Bank (Judea and Sameria). Mubarak has also decided to to construct an underground steel wall along its border with Gaza to dissuade smuggling of munition and weapons into Gaza from Hamas sympathizers and supporters in Egypt. read more at: http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3840046,00.html
As you may or may not know since the 7.0 earthquake in Haiti Israel has sent a large number of IDF medical and rescue teams to help with the devastation. The IDF has announced that the Israeli rescue crew will remain in the Caribbean for at least another month to oversee an Israeli field hospital set up in the wake of the disaster. Their most recent rescue was a a 22-year-old man, from a three-storey building near the Presidential Palace in Port-au-Prince on Friday, nearly 10 days after the earthquake hit. The victims are being brought to IDF releif hospitals and being cared for by representatives of Magen David Adom and volunteers from IsraAID. Israel is doing a great deal in Haiti to help with the disaster that has befallen the country.
